< Return to Interwrite Makeover Video Contest The Mars Wars
On my first year of teaching kindergarten, one student told me that he would like to go to Mars. I told him that we will do it; I started to write a lesson plan about a virtual fieldtrip to the Moon and Mars. This is my fourth year of teaching kindergarten and this lesson plan once inspired by one of my students has become a tradition in my class. Technology must never replace the imagination of our students. When the time pass by, all technology is going to be obsolete, what we are teaching our kids right now is going to be different in five years. As educators we have to teach that even the latest technology is not going to solve all the problems, there are problems that must be solved with out the use of technology, for example it doesn’t matter if you are a genius on the computer; some times you will have to work in team. Technology is just a tool to expand our imagination and creativity. A version of this video was seen by Headquarters in NASA and even we got a phone call from England about this project and we got our picture on the News Paper. It was a sock that bilingual kindergarten classes was using such kind of technology and cooperate at the same time with the parents. This video was made just with a 3.2 mega pixels digital camera with a 128MB card; we really need more technology in our school. On this video we not only parody a song, we are also making a parody of the communications in space. Enjoy it and vote for us!!!

This video was amazing! The bilingual kindergarteners were exposed to a variety of educational techniques by the instructor that not only practiced basic skills, but introduced new concepts. The real-time emphasis of the experience for the children brought it into their world, and made it relevant to them. Here, Here! Bravo!
