< Return to Interwrite Makeover Video Contest Aint Gonna Hold Us Back (D-I-G-I-T-A-L)
Studies show that technology has become the new “boys club.” but the students in Mr. Colosi’s first grade class intend to reverse that trend—these girls share their love of technology as a part of their future endeavors. The benefits of using technology in the classroom are endless, and in the future it will be important that our digital learners are represented by both genders. Sung to the tune of Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl,” these six-year-old students embrace the available equipment, enthusiastically share some ways they use technology in the classroom, and offer an empowering message of hope to female students. In conjunction with the internet, new technology would further allow Mr. Colosi’s class to spread this optimistic and collaborative message to students around the world.

Fantastic, wonderful video. Great job done by all. Good Luck !!

VictoriaP commented 10/28/2007

This submission is far more easy to listen to and enjoy. It gets to the heart of the matter regarding technology needs for all classrooms in all schools if we are to keep up with societal expectations for performance. Other submissions just do not equal the student input to the video and no others match the enthusiasm that Mr. Colosi's students have displayed and inspired. Rock on!

You go girls!!!!!!u r so cute!im in the 6-9 catagory, techno intergration is my vid!

BloomfieldMrSBB commented 11/01/2007

Very impressive video! Gender bias is a long standing problem in the schools. Your efforts will help make this a non-factor. Keep up the good work.

janelleisawesome commented 11/01/2007

great work with this video--It's great to see a focus on what you could do with all the technology in the classroom and not as much of a focus on what you do not have (which I'm sure could have been showcased as well!) Your expertise in the tech area will help these students, boys and girls alike, become digital learners. Although your video has the most votes, it also surpasses the criteria needed for creativity points and collaboration with students and teacher--what a fun class. Thanks for your efforts in trying to improve the entire school district. CONGRATS ON YOUR SUCCESS!!!!

grze1954 commented 11/01/2007

I am very impressed with the children/teacher involved with this. You can be very proud of this accomplishment. GO GIRLS!!! Maybe you could teacher me some technology (Computer skills) ?

joanjet commented 11/01/2007

Cute video, did not like the total idea concept, would have preferred it be for the students not pushing "girl power", also saw lots of technology already at this school, they don't appear to be lacking in technology, many other schools more deserving.

hoofsup commented 11/01/2007

As a women in the technolgy field I think you message is spot on! Go Girls - it was nice you let the boys participate. You definitely have a great teacher too.

astroboy60 commented 11/01/2007

Have to agree with joanjet. Great video but just somehow seems out of place in this kind of competition.

Mumbleweed commented 11/01/2007

great video! It takes some creative thinking to get across multible messages. Great use of technology and where it is taking us ALL ! I like the way you brought the "boys" into supporting roles in this whole endeavor; bringing everyone together to work together and letting technology help make it happen. Good message. Great job!

LabradorII commented 11/01/2007

Mr. Colosi are you allowed to post this in youtube? may help!

docgrimm commented 11/02/2007

Girls rule (often), boys drool (occasionally). In either case, these students and their teacher are to be congratulated for stating the obvious. Gender disparity is unfounded and unfair (see first sentence). Fight the fair fight, and don't succumb to societal stereotypes. If this video doesn't prevail, Interwrite needs a new mission statement and/or marketing director. Good Luck Mr. Colosi and kids.

WOW! I'm so glad I watched your amazing video. It addresses a very real and serious issue, and yet it's so upbeat and FUN! I'll never hear "Hollaback Girl" the same way again. Looks like all the kids and their teacher had a great time making this. I'm in higher education marketing, and have also worked at ad agencies, and I can testify that this is a VERY well-done, professional video that ranks with the best! Good luck in the competition, and don't stop there -- take this great piece to the whole world! -- A fellow Geneseo grad, class of '88

I LOVED the video and the amazing message! It gave me smiles and goosebumps! OUTSTANDING!!! What a great experience for all involved -- you've already won!

turningstone commented 11/08/2007

This video is so clever in the sense that it raises issues of gender bias in schools. yet does not alienate male students and preaches the idea of ALL students working together
to use technology to ensure a better future. What a brilliant and original message -- loved it.

twill0302 commented 11/08/2007

This was an awesome video. I just wish I could be there to see all the cute faces when it is announced to them that they are the winners. Mr. Colosi, you have introduced to them at a very young age that when they put their minds to something and act on it the sky is the limit. That in and of itself is priceless and you should be proud.

I hope you win!

Awesome job Mr. Colosi's class. Makes me so proud to be part of Canandaigua.
It was so much fun to see all my son's friends in the video. We are all cheering you on!

jjbaby321 commented 11/09/2007

After reading the previous comments, I just want to make the comment that I think it's awesome that you've sparked these conversations regarding technology in the classroom instead of just begging for money which every school in the country is in need of. Your video was the only one that is creative, research based and promotes an increased use of technology for all students. Regardless of who wins, you're video is by far the superior not only for it's creativity but also for the message it sends across. Friends who I forwarded this to sing the catchy lyrics and have watched the video repeatedly! Congrats on your success Mr. Colosi! Your school should be very proud!

I hope you win with this marvelous video! Please publish your future projects so we can see what you are up to next. You go, girls and boys!!

technotrue commented 11/09/2007

jjbaby321:
I don't see any "begging for money" going on in the finalists on ANY grade level. Perhaps you are referring to the videos who are illustrating the "digital divide" between the "haves" and the "have nots", rather than illustrating the gender problem. While I don't doubt the premise of this video, I see a much more important and challenging message in some of those others. Perhaps the ones that "weren't creative" are just normal kids from districts that have few resources for both girls AND boys and are seeking an opportunity to close the gap between those who are fortunate enough to have rich districts and stable families, and those that might need a little help to get where they need to be in the coming generation of digital natives. Just a thought as we wind down.

turningstone commented 11/09/2007

All of the finalists worked hard and put together some pretty nice videos. Let's not criticize anyone's work, as it is a major accomplishment to have been chosen as a finalist. technotrue... I see what you are saying, but feel that your comments are diminishing the accomplishments of this great class. As a parent of girls, I feel this is an outstanding video with a great message very relevant to the future of all children. Beside if you watch the end of the video, it's quite clear it's not just a video just about gender. Great job NY

Edinagirl1994 commented 11/09/2007

OMG this is so cute. Great job girls

jjbaby321 commented 11/09/2007

I also think it's important to keep in mind that you can't judge the school districts resources based on any of the classrooms in any of the videos. Mr. Colosi provides almost all of the technology displayed from his own personal resources. The grant would benefit the entire district. Canandaigua is not a district full of the "haves" but has many "normal" children. This class just happens to have a creative and motivative teacher who has a very special talent. And to the first grade students who starred in this video in the first few weeks of school--WOW! If you are this talented at such a young age, who knows what lies in your future! Keep on shinning!

Good luck to all the finalists.

libbyd commented 11/10/2007

Thanks for the messages of support especially to Mr Colosi who has left a message of encouragement for us at P.E.S. We had a great time making our movie, as it is obvious you did as well. All the best for final judging. It's a big wide world out there but technology can and does make it smaller and closer for all of us. Kia Ora Tatou from Point England School, Auckland NZ.
